Created in the 1860s by John B. Stetson on a trip out West seeking open skies and new frontiers, The Boss of the Plains is the hat that started it all.
In keeping with its unparalleled heritage, each Boss of the Plains is made the old-fashioned way, dyed and shaped and distressed entirely by hand. This results in a hat that is truly one of a kind, with its own unique color, shape and level of distressing. (Note: As a result of this time-honored process, your hat may vary significantly in color from the versions shown here.)
In addition to the browns and tans offered elsewhere, we also offer the Limited Edition Boss in black. Each hat is different and the photos here are just samples. Hats are heavily distressed.
Each Boss of the Plains is crafted from high-quality 6X fur felt for a lifetime of wear, with a signature leather hat band, interior leather sweatband, and satin lining. With its unmistakable profile and signature distressed patina, the Boss of the Plains may be our most iconic hat—the ultimate marriage of form and function.
